About Ellen Kanner:
I started hammering and bending wires to create my jewelry in 1998 while living in Portland, Maine. My familial traits include a father who was a cabinetmaker and metalsmith, so hammering metal comes with the territory.
My creations started with stones and pearls, inspired by the natural colors found in the Maine woods and in the seaglass found on its many beaches. Travel and seeing foreign lands inspire many of my creations.
I handcraft each unique item. All swirls are hammered by hand in sterling silver accompanied by semi-precious natural stones, freshwater pearls or funky glass beads. Stones used include amethyst, iolite, jasper, citrine, fluorite, garnet, amber, and black onyx, among others. Freshwater pearls range in color from gray to pink to white. The series of beach stone pendants are created with sterling silver and pebbles found on shores from Maine to Oregon. Some of my latest beaded pieces were inspired by the Austen novels and the classic jewelry worn during that time period.

I have returned to my favorite town of Portland, Maine after a 10 year haitus and work on a variety of art pieces and jewelry items. My designs are sold in a variety of stores throughout the United States, from Homer, AK to Hancock, NH.
